(Warning!: I ramble and complain alot in this post. Anyone crazy enough to read the whole thing should probably make a coffee or something first...)
Hello guys... =o)
I'm very sorry for my absence on GW of late. As I am sure most of you would understand, life is pretty busy for me right now. There's the usual family stuff with Ethan teething big time (6 teeth coming through at once), my car is off the road and haven't got any time to scratch my butt, let alone get it fixed (the car, not my butt). It doesn't really help that my auto electrician friend is such a negative, depressing butt head. If I asked for his help he would make it sound like a big deal like I'm trying to use him or something (even if I offered him workshop price payment...). He's one of those "happy-in-misery" sorts...
As far as Guild Wars goes, I kinda hit a rut. I just don't think I'm very good at it, which really annoys me (because I'm such a perfectionist) but I don't have the time to devote to it to get to that level of skill. I've seen situations in ab's where it takes 4 people about 30 seconds to take one person down, when I can easily get buttfucked by 1 person in about 5-10 seconds. Although disheartening, I still kept trying, but find myself being rewarded by a regular flow of similar results. So I continued to pve to try and get better armor/runes/weaps/skills/cash to try and better the odds, but again, not enough time to get very far... Needless to say, a certain little deletion situation assisted the dampening of my enthusiasm also... Similar to you Afton, I may well get my motivation back for Nightfall, and although I still love GW, I just don't seem to be getting any better. I remember I took on Cortez Blade with Switchblade Shinobi when I first joined the guild (I was about lvl16 I think), and needless to say I lasted about 5-10 seconds, during which time I took off about 3-4% of Jamie's health. The thing is, I am pretty sure that if I did the same again now, I would still only last about 5-10 seconds. Oh well, maybe one day I'll be able to take 10% off his health before dying =oP
Well, aside from home and GW, work is really flat out too... This September is a big month for new releases at work (Saint's Row, LEGO Star Wars II, Dead Rising etc. etc. with alot more to come) which calls for more hours, more product knowledge and more stress. The stress is mainly due to wanker customers expecting favors like I owe them something, and also getting their undies bunched up because they missed out on their little pre-order LEGO keyring, when it was clearly stated on the poster that they were available 'while stocks last'. That's what you get for picking the game up 5 days after release without calling us to put one aside. For starters, we are only obliged to hold pre-orders for a maximum of 48 hours (clearly printed on the receipt), yet they want the game AND their friggin' keyring to be waiting there just for lil' ol' them a whole working week later? Why bloody pre-order if you don't want it on release? Because after all, that is the essential purpose of pre-ordering: To guarantee you'll get it upon release...
One guy in particular came in 2 days ago to pick up his LEGO Star Wars II pre-order (4 days after release), he asked about the pre-order keyring bonus (we had ran out), I apologised that we didn't have any, he said that we were slack for not having enough and asked me to get the boss to call him. I explained that it was a 'while stocks last' offer, but he said that was total crap because he runs a business and when he offers something he honours it. I said that's good to know, but 'while stocks last' is 'while stocks last'. So then he said that's rubbish and he'll punch my head in if I give him that 'while stocks last' crap...
THIS IS OVER A FUCKING $1 LEGO KEYRING PEOPLE!!! (unconfirmed value, just a guess...)
It's basically a LEGO Boba Fett with a keychain hanging out of his head... Nothing more... And this guys wants to pick a fight over it? Even if it was a matter of principal (as I assume it was), the facts still remain: The offer was "while stocks last", he came in 4 days after release expecting to get one when the popularity of the game was well known, and pre-orderer's were informed that it was a "first in, best dressed" situation... Here's the thing, though: I was more than willing to call our other stores to see if I could track one down for him, which there was a fair chance of success (we're a very busy store, most other stores are quiet = less chance of running out). But, because he insisted on getting all hot'n'heavy, I thought to myself "What the fuck for?!?"
One last thing before I go: Anyone thinking playing video games for product knowledge is a dream job should know that it ain't all it's cracked up to be. It's like any profession: Do it often enough, you'll get sick of it. It includes playing games that don't interest me at all, just so I can say "Yeah, tried that one last night, pretty sweet game", even though I don't give a shit about Princess Peach... Besides, trying the games takes up about 2% of the work. Most of it is sales, stock counts, banking, clerical, store presentation etc. etc., and my personal favourite: putting up with irate customers because Blizzard delayed WOW: Burning Crusade AGAIN! Like it's OUR bloody fault that Blizzard's testing team found some more bugs, or that SquareEnix delayed Kingdom Hearts II AGAIN! Or that Sony delayed the PAL release of the PS3 because they misjudged production times... Yeah, blame the sales dude!!! I guess I did steal the Burning Crusade and Kingdom Hearts II code to slow the release down, and I did sabotage the Sony production plant, so yeah, BLAME ME!!! If you think going spare at the sales dude is gonna make your pissy little game/console come out faster, then go right ahead people, just don't expect a nice response, cause we can only bite I tongues so often... Phew, I think I need a knew career...
Well, I've said my piece. I shall now proceed to shutting up...

Oh Jai, hun. I'm so sorry. I totally understand the kinda crap you're going through hun - the kind where everything you look at seems to go wrong and you wonder why you even bother to get out of bed. I'm here hun, if you ever want to talk. You have my MSN and i'm generally online. Let me know if there's anything you can do.
I agree on the nightfall thing. I think my main problem is that I suck at the game too and I am so fricking fed up with alliance battles that the whole thing isn't fun anymore. The only thing I've really enjoyed was the people - I've made so many good friends on there - friendships that i truly cherish and that is the only reason I get online anymore.
BTW, I have Star Wars Lego II for the DS and I love it - if I can get Jamie off it, that is.
Also, how is Princess Peach? My daughter got Mario and Luigi - Partners in Time with her Birthday money and due to her disabilities it is beyond her comprehension. I was gonna get Princess Peach for her instead. That's another game I can't drag Jamie away from.
Anyway hun, let me know if I can help x

It's all about putting things in perspective m8
i mean, before you can call yourself a true pro
you have to master EACH profession, EACH pvp build, and each PVE build.
Only by playing a profession can you truly understand them, and thus defend against them.
But are you RLY prepared to put that much time in GW
If it dont come naturaly, dont try and get better then the ones who do have it
there's nothing that can fuck up your hobby more then taking it too seriously
Besides, the guys who do have the time and stamina to become pros
usualy have nothing outside the game they play
trick is: just relax and let the gamingfreaks have their fun, and you have yours
on a non-related mather:
i just bought a new game called yakuza, that and the fact that my connection hates me, AGAIN i'll likely not come online too much for like a week or less

Yes, a very cool game =o) I haven't tried the DS version, but have been playing the XBOX360 version. I can't remember Princess Peach too well. It was amongst about 10 DS games Itried in a matter of an hour... I'll give it another go at work and let you know =o)

Hey Jai - how are things going, hun? We miss you!

oh Yakuza is a pretty good alright
Good, not great, in comparison GTA is in a higher league but it does have some significant advantages over GTA.
so here i'm gonna sumarise the pros and cons:
pros:
Tthe fighting system is A LOT more fun than the GTA one which only uses ONE attack button, you can kick, puch, grab, use al sort of weapons that you find on the ground and use some cool special moves (HEAT moves).
btw weapons are powerful and can get passed blocks but they only last for a certain number of hits so which aint a bad system cause that way you rly use everything lying around.(Powerful weapons like swords and guns are quite rare so you'll most likely be using weapons like an iron pipe, a beer bottle, a bike, a sofa, even tables )
fights btw dont just take plz in the middle of a street foes are usually scouting the street and go after you when they spot you (you can tell you got spotted cause they scream stuf like WTF?! which somehow puts a smile on my face) and when they touch you enter an ' arena' adepted to the area you're in, with its own set of weapons.
There are also a few occasions where you wil fight foes continuously, these are by far the sweetests parts of the game and occur mostly when your taking on an entire clan (mobclan).
second pro is that it has a better rpg-skillbuilding system, exp from fights instead of having to waste your time going to the gym.
pro or con:
In comparison to GTA,the adult themes are a lot more explicit, nothing TOO explicit, but all the elements of the underground are clearly present.
ESPECIALY the sexindustry
examples: there are about as much as hostess bars (basicaly a bar filled with EXPENSIVE prostitutes, which can be seduced in a simgirl-like manner) as there are restaurants, you can find articles of sabre filled with young asian women in bikinies, massages that come with a what appears to be a strip-minigame
(i sucked at it, dam heart always goes down after 5secs and then i have to hear the dam woman say"it happens sometime" :X )
the protaganist can visit all shops mentioned above, that is, if he has the mony, (btw once, when i visited a stripclub, the stripper turned out to be a hitman in disguise (MAN in caps ))
But also torture or rape or women forced into prostitution are themes present within the game (you may, or may not find that pro or a con but i like adult themes (not necessarily sexual, just mature) in one event i entered a park and two girls in japanes schooluniform approached me and asked" wanna have some fun? But no rough stuf ok?" *cough*
The game is filled with japanese culture, not only the hostest bars but the sea of adds, the popularity of the umbrella, the arcades ^^ , the gambling, the honour and respect. also i've learned that aniki mean captain, oyabun means chief, and you have to end the pronounciation of someone's name with -san if you want to be polite and -chan if the person is close to you (in a loving way, only used for women or women talking about their boyfriend)
cons:
the world isnt as large as the GTA one by far, actually it's relatively small and has NO CARS, with the focus on the local shops rather than freedom.
people swear A LOT and i mean in every conversation, and when they're mad they have to say fuck or fucking in every sentence. It's not offensive but it's oftenly gets you laughing at what is supposed to be a dramatic scene.
also the lipsynching (japanese ya know) is quite poor and the voice acting of many characters is only so-so.
Anyway that should be the most important information you need to descide if you wanna buy it or not
